2027 GMC Canyon: What’s New, What’s Changing, and What Stays the Same
The 2027 GMC Canyon is not a redesign. It is an update to the third-generation Canyon that debuted for 2023, and the headline is power: every Canyon now gets a 350-horsepower TurboMax engine. Around that sit a new Baja drive mode on the AT4 and AT4X, faster 5G connectivity, a universal garage door opener, fresh colors and wheels, and a $300 price increase. Whether you drive a 2026 Canyon now or you are shopping for a midsize pickup in Apple Valley and the Twin Cities south metro, this guide covers exactly what is different, plus what carries over.

What Is New on the 2027 Canyon
A Stronger TurboMax Engine
The 2.7L TurboMax now makes 350 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque, up from 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. on the 2026 Canyon. GM credits a new turbocharger, a revised fuel injection system, better thermal management, and reworked pistons, along with smoother drivability and less noise and vibration. That makes it one of the most powerful standard engines in the midsize truck class, and every 2027 Canyon trim gets it.
A New Baja Mode With Launch Control
The AT4 and AT4X add a new Baja drive mode that the 2026 Canyon did not offer. It loosens the traction and stability control so the truck can move more freely on loose dirt and gravel, and it holds gears longer to keep the engine in its power band. Launch control is included for quicker, more controlled starts.
Faster Connectivity and a Garage Door Opener
The built-in Wi-Fi hotspot moves up from 4G LTE to 5G capability for faster streaming and downloads on the road (an active data plan is required). A universal garage door opener also joins the lineup, so you can open the garage from the cab instead of digging for a remote on a snowy Minnesota morning.
Three New Colors
Each new color for 2027 is tied to specific trims. Vortex Blue is exclusive to the Elevation, Dark Ridge Metallic is offered on the AT4 and AT4X, and Forest Bronze is exclusive to the Denali. All three are extra-cost paints.
Four New Wheel Designs
The wheel lineup is almost entirely refreshed. The AT4X gets 17-inch Painted Deep Void aluminum wheels, the Denali gets 20-inch machined wheels with Carbon Grey Metallic accents, and 20-inch Gloss Black wheels come with the Nightfall Edition and Nightfall Essentials Package. There is also a new dealer-installed 18-inch Gloss Black machine-faced wheel, which we are happy to quote for you.
What Is Changing From the 2026 Canyon
Prices Go Up by $300
Every 2027 Canyon trim is reported to cost $300 more than its 2026 counterpart. Reported starting prices (including the $2,095 destination charge) are:
| Elevation 2WD | $41,295 |
| Elevation 4WD | $44,595 |
| AT4 | $47,895 |
| Denali | $55,695 |
| AT4X | $59,695 |
Pricing shown does not include taxes, title, license, or dealer fees; ask Kunes Apple Valley Buick GMC for current numbers on a specific vehicle.
Three Colors Are Retired
Desert Sun, Glacier Metallic, and Rapids Metallic do not return for 2027. If one of those is your color, 2026 inventory is your last chance.
Three Wheel Designs Are Retired
The 20-inch Diamond Cut Dark Grey, 17-inch Black High Gloss machined, and 20-inch Machine Faced with Dark Pockets wheels leave the lineup. Again, 2026 inventory is the place to find them.
A New Engine Code for Service and Parts
The TurboMax now carries the L4B engine code instead of L3B. Most drivers will never notice, but if you service, accessorize, or modify your own truck, parts catalogs and service procedures are keyed to that code, so it is worth knowing which one you have.
What Stays the Same
The 8-speed automatic carries over, and every Canyon is still a Crew Cab with a short box on a 131-inch wheelbase. Towing and payload are unchanged from 2026: up to 7,700 lbs. of towing when properly equipped (6,000 lbs. on the AT4X and 5,500 lbs. on the AT4X AEV Edition), and up to 1,670 lbs. of payload on the Elevation 2WD. The fuel tank still holds 21.4 gallons, the AT4X still leads the lineup with 10.7 inches of ground clearance, and four-wheel drive is still a $3,300 option on the Elevation and standard on every other trim. Carryover colors include Coastal Dune, Summit White, Onyx Black, Volcanic Red Tintcoat, and Sterling Metallic. Standard GM warranty coverage applies as usual (3 years or 36,000 miles bumper-to-bumper and 5 years or 60,000 miles on the powertrain).
What Is New on Each 2027 Canyon Trim
Canyon Elevation
The only Canyon offered with two-wheel drive. For 2027 it gains the 350-horsepower TurboMax, the 5G hotspot, the universal garage door opener, and exclusive access to Vortex Blue paint.
Canyon AT4
Four-wheel drive remains standard. New for 2027 are the Baja drive mode with launch control and available Dark Ridge Metallic paint.
Canyon Denali
The premium Canyon adds new 20-inch machined wheels with Carbon Grey Metallic accents and exclusive Forest Bronze paint, paired with a Jet Black and Teak interior.
Canyon AT4X
The serious off-road build keeps its 10.7 inches of ground clearance and adds the Baja drive mode, new 17-inch Painted Deep Void wheels, and available Dark Ridge Metallic paint with the Obsidian Rush interior. The AT4X AEV Edition continues at the top of the lineup.
Features and packages vary by trim, and our team at Kunes Apple Valley Buick GMC can walk you through the full specs on any Canyon in stock.
Should You Buy a 2026 Canyon or Wait for the 2027?
Go with the 2027 if you want the extra 40 horsepower, the Baja mode on the AT4 or AT4X, the 5G hotspot, or one of the new colors or wheels. A leftover 2026 can make more sense if a discount beats the $300 price increase, if you want Desert Sun, Glacier Metallic, or Rapids Metallic, or if you want a truck in your driveway now, since 2027 production is scheduled to begin in October 2026. Either way, we will work through the numbers with you, with no pressure. We make it EASY!
